Amazon Repricer

An FBA repricer that replaces a per-seat SaaS subscription with your own rulebook: a markdown grid by stock age and sales rank, a hard price wall, and a dry run you can watch before anything goes live.

The problem

The store paid a per-seat repricing subscription and got a strategy name in a dropdown in return. When a price moved in a way nobody liked, there was no file to open to find out why, and any rule the vendor did not offer meant paying every month to be told no.

The tool

  • Reads each FBA listing's stock age, sales rank, and price history
  • Applies a markdown grid: the discount at every intersection of how long a unit has sat and how its rank is holding
  • Draws an absolute floor and ceiling from what the listing has actually sold for, so no rule can push a price past where a person would have set it
  • Flags units for removal at day 165
  • Runs in dry-run mode by default, logging every decision it would have made until the operator switches writes on

About the data below: the listings, ranks, ages and price histories in this demo are invented, a fixed sample catalog, not live or historical Amazon data. The rulebook is the real one; the numbers are not.

Applies the grid to every enabled bucket at once. Dry Run logs what would change and pushes nothing.

0 of 18 listings currently auto-priced: the age bucket is enabled in the Control Center, though Dry Run blocks every push right now.

How it works

The grid is the whole strategy

Two things decide what a unit of FBA inventory is worth today: how long it has been sitting, and how well it ranks. Age alone misleads. A 120-day-old unit in a category that turns over quickly is a different problem from the same unit in a dead category, so the engine crosses the two. Seven age buckets (0 to 45, 46 to 65, 66 to 75, 76 to 100, 101 to 125, 126 to 150, and 151+ days) run against six rank tiers (under 50k, 50k to 100k, 100k to 300k, 300k to 500k, 500k+, and no rank data), and each of the 42 cells holds its own markdown percentage and its own pause switch.

That grid is the strategy, written as a table the operator can edit. A fast-moving item that is slightly aged barely moves. A slow-ranking item at 151 days gets cut hard. Any cell can be paused instead of discounted, for the categories where a lower price only destroys margin. Change one cell and every affected listing re-prices. In the demo above, that recalculation is live.

The wall that stops a bad rule

The risk with automated pricing is a rule that is badly wrong at three in the morning across two thousand listings. So under the grid sits a boundary the engine cannot cross, whatever a rule computes: a floor at the 30-day low minus 15%, and a ceiling at the 90-day high plus 20%, both built from price history the system collects itself.

Around that sit the smaller guards that come from running an FBA account. Missing cost data counts as a dollar, so a blank cost still carries a price. Outliers are excluded before any competitive comparison, so one strange listing cannot drag the price down. If Amazon itself is on the listing, the engine checks its stock before treating it as a competitor. When there is no Buy Box to reference, there is an explicit fallback. Day 165 raises a removal flag. Past that point the question is whether to keep paying storage on the unit.

Dry run is the default

The system ships with dry run on and every age bucket switched off. Rolling out automated pricing should feel like turning up a dial, so you enable one age bucket at a time, watch what the engine wants to do to it, and then let it write.

In dry run every decision is computed and displayed as it would be applied, including the price it would push and the rule that produced it, and the push is simulated. You can read it over coffee for a week before committing. The audit trail exists from day one: what changed, when, and which rule was responsible.

Why build this instead of subscribing

Per-seat repricing software is a reasonable purchase until your pricing logic stops matching the vendor's. The moment you want a rule the vendor does not offer, a pause in one rank tier, a removal flag at a set age, a price floor drawn from your own history, you are waiting on a roadmap.

Owning the rulebook changes that. The grid is yours, the price history is collected by your own system, and the subscription stops. The software was worth building because the rules are specific to how this seller operates, and specificity is the thing off-the-shelf software cannot sell.

The result

Bloat cut
2 → 0
repricing subscriptions, replaced by software owned outright

A one-time build against a bill that arrived every month. The rulebook is now a table the team can read and edit instead of a strategy name in a dropdown.
